Out-of-the-Box Ways Old Town Auburn Businesses are Serving You During COVID-19

Sheltering in place can be harder than it sounds. Isolation, food shortages, even something as simple as missing your favorite restaurant or happy hour can be challenging. Old Town Auburn is still open, and our businesses are working hard to find ways to serve you while keeping you and their employees safe.

Check out some of the amazing ways you can still support your favorite local Old Town businesses while getting the food you need during this challenging time.

Going Beyond To-Go: The Pour Choice

Like many of our Old Town Auburn eateries, The Pour Choice is offering your favorite coffee and food items for take-out. But The Pour Choice is going even further to make sure your family is safely fed during COVID shelter-in-place with The Pour Choice Mercantile food delivery and donation services.

The Pour Choice Mercantile
Trying to avoid crowded grocery stores? Shop the Pour Choice Mercantile, instead. Load up your (virtual) cart with meat, fresh produce, healthy dried goods and snacks, bread, tortillas, eggs, cheese, butter, milk, oat milk, and more tasty, nutritious food staples.

The Pour Choice Mercantile offers curbside pick up or, for a $10 fee, delivery from Grass Valley to Roseville.

PC Mercantile foods are grown locally, delivered by trusted supplier @produceexpress, packed up by the PC's re-hired kitchen staff, and delivered straight to you.

No more picked over shelves or items that have been touched by too many hands.

Grocery Donation
The Pour Choice is partnering with caring community members to help families in financial need during this challenging time. So far, over $3,000 has been donated to fund groceries to families in need. There are two ways you can help feed families through the Pour Choice grocery donation program:

You can nominate a family or friend struggling to fill the fridge or you can donate to a family in need. 100% of donations go to fulfilling grocery orders.

Get Out of the Box (Store): Shop at the PlacerGROWN Farmers Market

Going to the grocery store and big box stores can feel daunting, especially now that some stores are limiting the number of shoppers allowed in the store at one time.

Luckily, the PlacerGROWN Farmers Market is still taking place in Old Town Auburn on Saturdays, and in other Placer County locations throughout the week.

The farmers market is the perfect opportunity to shop out in the fresh, open air. And PlacerGROWN and its vendors have taken careful steps to ensure your safety while shopping.

A hand-washing station is placed at the entrance of the farmers market, along with signs encouraging shoppers to wash hands upon arrival, wear masks, and keep a safe 6-foot distance from one another.

The local farmers and vendors that you love to shop from have also changed the way they do business to ensure the safety of their customers. Don't expect to pick out your own produce anymore -- for the most part, vendors are now the only ones touching their goods before you buy them.

"I feel safer shopping at the farmers market than a grocery store," one patron recently admitted on a Saturday morning trip to the market.

"I feel like there are fewer hands touching my food from the farm to my house, and I'm really impressed by the ways the farmers have made changes to make safety a priority."

Of course, the Pour Choice and PlacerGROWN Farmers Market aren't the only Old Town Auburn businesses who are making sure you can still get your favorite foods and drinks during the shut-down.
